A 26-year-old therapist, Sofia Drotts, has been arrested and faces multiple felony charges in California for allegedly grooming and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old male while he was in juvenile hall, and continuing the abuse after his release. Drotts was employed as a Behavioral Health Clinician at Contra Costa County juvenile hall and was assigned to the minor, identified as John Doe.
According to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office, the alleged sexual relationship between Drotts and the minor occurred between April and July of this year, following his release from juvenile hall. The investigation was initiated after a supervisor in the probation department reported concerns to the Concord Police Department. Detectives gathered evidence supporting the allegations, leading to Drotts' arrest on July 14, pursuant to a Ramey warrant.
Drotts is facing charges that include two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18, sexual penetration by a foreign object, two counts of sending harmful matter to a minor, and possession of child pornography.
The Concord Police Department stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is being released at this time. The Contra Costa Superior Court is expected to set an arraignment date for Drotts, where she will formally hear the charges against her. If she enters a plea of not guilty, the case will proceed to a preliminary hearing.
