A 36-year-old California man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with his mother's death. Safford Wolfson was taken into custody Thursday, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department. Investigators had previously identified Wolfson as a person of interest in the case.

Police responded to a home in the 1300 block of Dunning Drive on Monday after receiving a report of a death investigation. Officers found Angela Caprioli, 61, deceased at the scene. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

Wolfson, who reportedly moved into the Laguna Beach home about six months prior, was arrested on suspicion of murder. A neighbor, Dustin Pettit, told The California Post that he witnessed Wolfson and Caprioli engaged in a heated argument days before the incident.

"She turned around and went inside and slammed the door, like she was fed up with whatever was going on," Pettit told the outlet, describing the interaction as a "hostile conversation." Pettit also told CBS Los Angeles that Wolfson was a "mysterious" resident who kept to himself.

Social media accounts associated with Wolfson identify the account holder as transgender, according to The New York Post. The outlet also reported a 2024 Facebook post attributed to Wolfson stating, "Not even my mom wants to hang out with me man… talk about lame-o!"

The investigation is ongoing.
