A 7-year-old girl, identified by her family as Patricia, is expected to be released from the hospital on Thursday, five days after a severe mauling by a pack of dogs in Corning, California. The attack left the child in critical condition with her scalp ripped off and her legs severely injured.
Patricia was airlifted to US Davis Medical Center following the incident on the afternoon of June 27. Her grandmother, Monica Edmiston, stated on a GoFundMe page that the dogs inflicted numerous wounds and took her scalp. The family has been staying in their car in Sacramento to remain close to Patricia during her hospitalization.
Six dogs were seized from the scene by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office as part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been announced, and the Sheriff's Office has not provided updates on the investigation's status.
According to Edmiston's updates on the fundraising page, Patricia has undergone emergency surgery and is showing signs of recovery. "Patricia is doing so good she gets to come home on Thursday," Edmiston wrote in a recent update. Despite her improving condition, her family acknowledges a long road to healing ahead, noting that she is "still really scared but thank God she is a strong little girl."
The GoFundMe, established to assist the family with expenses like gas and food during their bedside vigil, surpassed its $3,000 goal, raising over $4,100. Edmiston expressed gratitude for the community's support, stating, "The love the town of Corning showed was overwhelming."
