Deputies in Hesperia, California, arrested a driver after he crashed a Camaro into a home and subsequently attempted to grab a deputy's firearm on August 12, 2026. The incident occurred around 7:22 p.m. in the 11700 block of Hesperia Road.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Christopher Harman of Victorville, tore through a fence before crashing the vehicle into a residence, with the Camaro coming to rest inside a bedroom and igniting a small fire. Occupants of the home were able to escape without injury.
Authorities stated that upon arrival, Harman repeatedly accelerated the vehicle into the home. Harman and his 39-year-old female passenger, identified as Brittany Thorson of Hesperia, refused to exit the vehicle when ordered to do so by deputies. The female passenger was observed smiling and laughing as deputies attempted to coax them out.
Witnesses reported that deputies issued multiple commands over a loudspeaker during a standoff that lasted approximately 30 minutes. Less-lethal rounds were reportedly fired as deputies moved in to extract the pair from the car.
During the struggle to remove Harman from the vehicle, he allegedly grabbed for one of the deputy's firearms. Deputies were able to subdue Harman and remove his passenger, who was then transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
After the pair were removed, witnesses stated that deputies and civilians used fire extinguishers to combat the flames and prevent further damage to the house. Harman was booked into the High Desert Detention Center facing multiple charges.
