WNBA star Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle, citing the marriage as "irretrievably broken." The Connecticut Sun player officially submitted the divorce documents in Fulton County on Thursday, according to records obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The couple, married since 2018, reportedly separated on July 24. Griner, 35, is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their two-year-old son and an equitable division of all marital assets. The filing also requests that Griner be awarded her separate, nonmarital property, including inherited and premarital assets.

Cherelle Griner stood by her wife during her nearly 10-month detention in Russia in 2022, which concluded with a prisoner swap. Griner spent her first 12 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, winning a championship in 2014, before playing the 2025 season with the Atlanta Dream and joining the Connecticut Sun this year.
