Britney Spears recently shared on social media that she feels she has "failed as a mother," attributing this sentiment in part to her parents allegedly meeting with her sons without her knowledge or consent.
In a post on X, Spears stated that she discovered approximately five years ago that her father, Jamie Spears, and her mother, Lynne Spears, had taken her sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, to the beach for outings over a summer. Spears, who was placed under a conservatorship largely controlled by her father from 2008 until its termination in November 2021, expressed that she felt "demoralized" by these secret meetings.
She recounted a past incident where her father allegedly prevented her from going to a diner with a friend due to concerns about paparazzi attention. This, combined with the perceived secrecy surrounding her sons' outings with her parents, led her to experience significant distress. "I honestly went to my knees and cried for two months," Spears wrote.
The singer also reflected on her son's statement that he did not believe in God, saying it prompted her confession of maternal shortcomings. "In that moment I believed I had failed as a mother because I know there is a Holy Spirit that sits high in the kingdom of heaven," she explained.
Spears, who has been candid about her experiences under conservatorship and what she describes as past abuse, conveyed a sense of lost self and intellectual capacity during that period. "I never got to be me" and "I used to be unbelievably intelligent" before being "brainwashed into an ignorant system where every g*****m person took advantage of me," she stated.
She expressed a desire to "get closer to God" and find renewed spirit. Spears also mentioned past legal issues, including a 2007 reckless driving charge for which she pleaded guilty and received probation and counseling.
