Leah Shutkever, a 36-year-old competitive eater from Birmingham, England, has regained her Guinness World Record for the fastest time to eat a burrito. She accomplished this feat by consuming the meal in 30.75 seconds at Guinness World Records headquarters in London. This surpasses the previous record of 31.47 seconds set by American speed eater Miki Sudo in 2022.
Shutkever, who already held 42 world records, had previously held the burrito eating title from 2019 to 2022. Her victory on this occasion was more than a minute faster than Sudo's time.
In addition to reclaiming the burrito record, Shutkever set two new world records on the same day. She consumed eight churros in one minute and 613 grams of strawberries in one minute. She has previously set records for eating a Domino's pizza in under a minute and a chocolate orange in under 50 seconds.
Shutkever, who describes herself as a gym enthusiast, trains six days a week to maintain her fitness alongside her competitive eating career. She stated that her interest in fitness began after being an overweight child, leading her to learn about nutrition and exercise in adulthood. She views breaking records as one of her proudest life achievements, surpassing even her degree in architecture.
Her journey into competitive eating began when she started a YouTube channel featuring food challenges. After attempting and breaking a record for eating a Chocolate Orange, she was contacted by a television show, which led to her officially attempting and breaking the burrito record on a national platform. She described the euphoria of breaking that initial record as a feeling she has been chasing ever since.
