Singaporean authorities have arrested and charged a 26-year-old British national in connection with a theft that occurred more than two years ago at Changi Airport. The incident involved the alleged theft of a denim jacket from a retail store within the airport's shopping mall.
The police were first alerted to the missing item on the evening of August 14, 2022, when a store employee noticed a blue denim jacket was no longer on its display mannequin. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed an individual removing the jacket, valued at approximately S$350 (about $275 or £202), and leaving the store without making a purchase.
By the time the suspect's identity was confirmed, he had already departed from Singapore. The 26-year-old was apprehended on August 15 of this year while in transit at the airport. He was formally charged on Tuesday with theft, an offense that carries a potential sentence of up to seven years in jail.
