Leah Shutkever, a competitive eater from Birmingham, England, has reclaimed her Guinness World Record for the fastest time to eat a burrito, finishing the meal in 30.75 seconds. This achievement marks a return to a title she previously held from 2019 to 2022.
Shutkever's previous record was surpassed by American speed eater Miki Sudo, who completed a burrito in 31.47 seconds. The rematch took place at Guinness World Records headquarters in London, where Shutkever successfully lowered the time by more than a second.
In addition to the burrito record, Shutkever also set two new world records: most churros eaten in one minute, with eight, and most strawberries eaten in one minute, consuming 613 grams, which is approximately 40 strawberries.
Shutkever, who has 42 world records to her name, has also achieved records for eating a Domino's pizza in under a minute and a chocolate orange in 57 seconds. She has competed globally, representing the UK, and appeared on the Channel 4 program "Battle of The Supereaters: 3,000 calories a minute" in 2019, the same year she first set her burrito world record.
Her journey into competitive eating began when she started a YouTube channel featuring food challenges. After attempting and filming a record for eating a Chocolate Orange, she was contacted by a television show to officially attempt the record with an adjudicator. The success of that attempt, she stated, led her to pursue competitive eating for the euphoric feeling it provided.
Shutkever attributes her current physique and approach to eating to a past struggle with her weight as a child. She emphasizes the importance of nutrition and fitness, going to the gym six times a week to maintain her physical condition alongside her competitive eating career. She stated that she balances her passion for fitness with her profession, noting that "everything boils down to calories in versus calories out, and everything in moderation."
She described breaking records as one of her proudest life experiences, ranking it even higher than earning her degree in architecture.
