Boxing champion Jermall Charlo was ordered out of his Lamborghini at gunpoint during his arrest for driving while intoxicated on May 6, 2024. Newly released police body camera footage from the Pearland, Texas incident shows multiple officers drawing their weapons on Charlo after he was accused of leaving the scene of an accident.
Officers repeatedly instructed Charlo to exit his vehicle. When he did not immediately comply, firearms were drawn and aimed at him. One officer was heard shouting, “Don’t get back in the car! Do not get back in the car! Listen to me!” Charlo eventually complied and was taken into custody.
During the encounter, Charlo appeared dazed and slurred his words, repeatedly asking officers for a chance. He told an officer he had not been involved in a car crash earlier that evening, stating, “I never touched his car.”
Following Charlo's arrest, officers searched his vehicle and reported finding three bottles of tequila, two empty and one sealed. During a DWI investigation at the jail, police alleged that Charlo showed signs of intoxication during field sobriety tests. Breath samples reportedly showed blood alcohol content readings of .237 and .231, significantly over the legal limit of .08.
Charlo was charged with two misdemeanors: driving while intoxicated with a BAC of .15 or higher and collision involving damage to a vehicle of $200 or more. On June 1, he pleaded guilty to the DWI charge. He was sentenced to three days in county jail, receiving credit for time served, and ordered to pay a $1,011 fine and court costs. His driver's license was suspended for 90 days.
Charlo's attorney, Kent A. Schaffer, stated that Charlo sought to resolve the case quickly to avoid further distraction. Charlo, twin brother of boxer Jermell Charlo, last fought in May 2025, defeating Thomas Lamanna by TKO.
