New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone and bench coach Brad Ausmus were ejected from Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after a contentious call on a double play review. The ejections occurred in the top of the sixth inning after home plate umpire Doug Eddings ruled a play involving José Caballero at second base was too late to challenge.

Ausmus was ejected first, followed by Boone, who argued vehemently with Eddings. The Yankees were in the midst of a challenging stretch, having lost 10 of their last 12 games entering Wednesday's contest. This marked Boone's third ejection of the season, while it was Ausmus' first.

Tanner Swanson, the club's director of catching and major league field coordinator, took over as acting manager for the remainder of the game. At the time of the ejections, the Yankees trailed the Rays 2-0.

The play in question involved Caballero attempting to advance on a 2-2 pitch to batter Ben Rice. Caballero was thrown out at second base by Rays catcher Nick Fortes after striking out. Boone and Ausmus appeared to want to challenge the call at second base, but they reportedly missed the window for a review. Boone was seen signaling to Eddings after Ausmus had conferred with someone on the phone, seemingly attempting to initiate a challenge that was deemed too late.
