The body of Karen Solomon, a Massachusetts woman who had been missing since her husband, a veteran Worcester police officer, was found dead, was discovered Monday in city woods. Authorities also recovered a handgun near the body.
Two employees at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital reported finding a deceased person in the woods near the facility at approximately 12:40 p.m. Investigators believe the person to be Karen Solomon, 58, though the identification remains preliminary, according to a statement from Worcester police.
The discovery concluded a days-long manhunt for Solomon, who had been sought by police since her husband, Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead inside their Wildwood Avenue residence on Aug. 18. Police responded to the home after a report of a person down and found the off-duty officer deceased. His cause and manner of death have not yet been released.
Authorities initially stated that Karen Solomon was a suspect they wanted to question regarding the events at the residence. Later, police released surveillance video and photographs of her, warning the public that she was believed to be armed and dangerous. She was last seen walking toward Westcott Street in pajama shorts and a tank top.
Public records indicate that Kurt and Karen Solomon co-owned the residence. Kurt Solomon was a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department. The New England Police Benevolent Association remembered him as a dedicated officer, colleague, and friend.
