The body of a 15-year-old boy has been recovered from Cowbury Reservoir in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) had been searching for the teenager after he reportedly got into difficulty in the water at approximately 18:30 BST on Saturday.

Officers were alerted to the incident and the boy's body was found in the reservoir later that same evening. GMP stated that formal identification has taken place and the boy's family has been informed. Chief Inspector Helen Baxter described the incident as "nothing short of devastating" and expressed her condolences to the family, adding that there were no suspicious circumstances. She issued a warning about the dangers of open water, urging the public to avoid swimming in reservoirs, rivers, canals, or ponds, especially during warm weather.

Separately, a search operation is ongoing in Greater Manchester for another boy who went missing in the River Irwell at Clifton Country Park in Salford. Police were called to the scene shortly before 17:00 on Saturday, responding to reports of a boy in difficulty. Emergency services and specialist search teams remain at the location, but no further details, including the boy's age, have been released.
