Human remains have been discovered in Queensland during the search for a mother who disappeared last week, authorities announced Sunday. The discovery was made in bushland off Esk Hampton Road at Redbank Creek on Saturday night.

Investigators believe the remains are those of Jana Armstrong, 30, who was last seen on Tuesday, July 7, at a unit on Gordon Avenue in the Toowoomba suburb of Newtown. Her white Hyundai Kona was found the following morning.

'The remains are yet to be formally identified; however, investigators believe they are those of Jana Armstrong,' a police spokesman stated. The spokesman added that investigators are in contact with Ms. Armstrong's family and that forensic examinations and investigations are ongoing.

Queensland Police released an update on Sunday that a body had been in bushland off Esk Hampton Road at Redbank Creek on Saturday night.

A 48-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with one count of murder, described as a domestic violence offense. He is scheduled to appear at Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police are continuing to appeal for information from the public, requesting anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam, or other vision to come forward.

Prior to her disappearance, Ms. Armstrong had shared brunch with her sister, Faith Isaacs, on Tuesday morning. CCTV footage released by police on Friday showed Ms. Armstrong arriving at a cafe to meet her sister. The footage depicted her pushing her four-month-old son, Deshal, in a pram and later holding him while inside the cafe.
