Two misdemeanor drug charges against Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller have been dismissed, according to his attorney. Miller was arrested in Idaho on June 6 following an incident on the highway.
Miller's attorney, Jeromy Stafford, stated that no drugs were found on his client and that the Fremont County Prosecuting Attorney's office agreed to dismiss the charges. The prosecutor's office confirmed the dismissal, citing new information that made dismissal in the interest of justice, though specific details were not disclosed due to an ongoing active case.
Miller had previously denied the charges on social media, explaining that he was pulled over for accelerating while passing another vehicle. He stated that a friend traveling with him possessed a small amount of cannabis and a pipe, which he was unaware of. Miller asserted that he and his friend fully cooperated with the officer and expressed hope that the charges would be dropped after a review of the facts.
The former Olympian, who won six medals during his career and is one of America's most decorated alpine skiers, posted a $5,000 cash bond after his arrest. He retired from skiing in 2017.
His arrest occurred shortly before the eighth anniversary of the tragic death of his infant daughter, Emeline, who drowned in a swimming pool on June 9, 2018. Emeline was 19 months old at the time of the incident. Miller and his wife, Morgan, have shared their grief and opened up about the incident, with Morgan expressing regrets about pool safety and the use of flotation devices.
The Miller family has experienced other significant events, including three children being hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning five years after Emeline's death, and one of their twin sons being hospitalized for a seizure seven months prior to that.
