Binks Celebrates Scotland Call-Up as 'Dream Come True'

Globetrotter Luis Binks has described his call-up to the Scotland squad as a "dream come true," emphasizing the importance of perseverance in achieving ambitions. The 25-year-old club captain for Danish side Brondby, who was born in Gillingham, previously spent his youth career at Tottenham Hotspur.

Binks's senior career has seen him play for Major League Soccer's Montreal Impact since 2020, as well as Italian clubs Bologna and Como, and Coventry City in England. He has now found a settled rhythm at Brondby, delivering performances that have caught the attention of new Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.

He qualifies to play for Scotland through his grandfather. Despite enduring a challenging period after joining Brondby, Binks feels that his decision to move to another country and rebuild his career has been validated by this international recognition.

"I can't say it's been a bad choice because, since I've been here, I've been named the captain of Brondby and I've now been called up to Scotland," Binks stated. "I've always believed in myself. That's why I said: ‘I'll go to another country again’. I'll experience another culture because I'm not scared to do that. I believe that I can go there (Scotland) and make a difference."

Recalling the moment he learned of his inclusion in Pocognoli's first squad, Binks said, "A dream come true. It's obviously a great honour for me and my family. I think it's different to any other sort of feeling you get within football. You're not just representing a club or anything like that. You're representing a whole country. It's another level. As a kid, you grow up wanting to play international football."

Binks has previously represented Scotland and England at Under-16 and Under-18 levels. He also credited current Rangers defender Ben Godfrey for his development during their time together at Brondby last season, noting that he felt he "shone" defensively during a difficult team spell and improved by playing alongside Godfrey.

This season, Binks has taken on the captaincy at Brondby, a role he describes as more demanding than simply wearing an armband, stating, "I'm learning day by day that it's not just that. There's a lot more that goes with it."
