Federal prosecutors stated that customers of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance used the platform to funnel approximately $1.5 billion to Iran, with the funds allegedly originating from Iranian oil sales. The transactions were reportedly conducted through a series of interconnected digital wallets.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has been investigating Binance for its role in facilitating transactions that violated sanctions. The allegations suggest that the exchange’s systems were exploited to move funds that were subject to U.S. sanctions, particularly those related to Iran's energy sector.

This development is part of a broader effort by U.S. authorities to curb illicit financial activities and enforce economic sanctions against countries like Iran. The DOJ has previously reached agreements with Binance concerning compliance and sanctions violations.
