Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio asserted on a Fox News election panel that the Republican party is misinterpreting voter priorities, suggesting their focus on issues like socialism is misplaced.

During a discussion on election night, de Blasio directly challenged the panel, stating, “I’ve been on many Fox programs. I respect this network, but I’ve got to tell you guys, you’re missing the plot.” He argued that the American populace is more concerned with the ongoing war, the rising cost of living, and healthcare access.

De Blasio contended that voters are distressed by economic conditions making it difficult for middle and working-class individuals to survive, and by issues related to healthcare.

“It’s not about Medicare for all, some of us believe that would be a good policy, it’s not going to happen tomorrow. Right now people can’t get the healthcare they need,” de Blasio said. He also noted that Republicans had failed to address these concerns during their legislative opportunities over the past year.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany countered by citing Michigan, where she argued that voters chose a Democratic socialist over a more moderate candidate. However, de Blasio responded that Democrats like James Talarico and Abdul El-Sayed resonated with voters through a simple “populist economic message.” This message, according to de Blasio, highlights that “our economy is rigged … and a small group of billionaires has too much power in this country.”

De Blasio concluded by stating that many Republicans and Independents agree with this economic message, and that their voting choices on election night demonstrated this.
