Two upcoming Beach Boys performances scheduled for November 11 and 12 at Disney World have been canceled, with John Stamos and his band, John Stamos and the California Sound, stepping in to replace them. This development follows a concerning health update from actor John Stamos regarding his longtime friend, Beach Boys singer Mike Love, 85.

Stamos shared on Instagram that Love is facing "serious health challenges." Despite advice from doctors, family, and friends to prioritize his health, Love has reportedly insisted on continuing to perform, stating he needs the support of his band and audience. "He says he needs his band, the audience, his friends and drummer surrounding him to lift him up," Stamos wrote.

This situation comes after the band's first public concert in three months on Saturday in Cincinnati. During the show, a visibly frail Love sat in a chair on stage for its entirety. Stamos, who has performed with the Beach Boys as a guest since the 1980s, expressed the emotional impact of seeing Love, whom he considers a mentor and father figure, face such human fragility. "Forty-one years of stages, airplanes, hotel rooms, laughter and moments nobody else saw," Stamos reflected on their long association.

Prior to the Cincinnati concert, Stamos addressed Love's health during a performance. "He's been going through some health issues. He's had to cancel some shows. But he would not miss tonight," Stamos told the crowd, explaining Love's determination to perform despite recommendations to rest. Stamos assisted Love onto the stage, where he remained seated. Love offered a brief "thank you for showing up" after the opening song, while other band members, including Love's son Christian Love, took on lead vocals.

The exact nature of Love's current health issues remains undisclosed. In June, Love had shared an update on Instagram, mentioning his ongoing recovery from bronchitis and a subsequent COVID-19 diagnosis, which, combined with the recent loss of his sister, had taken an emotional and physical toll. Following this, the band canceled the remainder of their shows through September, citing a need to "recharge." While their September shows were later canceled without explanation, the group performed a private show on October 3 where Love also performed from a chair.

Love and Al Jardine are the last surviving original members of The Beach Boys, a group co-founded in 1961. The band is known for hits such as "California Girls," "Surfin' Safari," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and "God Only Knows."
