The Beach Boys have canceled two upcoming performances at Disney World, with John Stamos and his band, John Stamos and the California Sound, stepping in to perform instead. This decision comes after actor John Stamos shared concerning news about the health of the band's 85-year-old lead singer, Mike Love.
Stamos revealed on Instagram that Love is facing "serious health challenges." Despite doctors' and friends' urging for Love to focus on his health, the singer reportedly insists on continuing to perform, stating that he needs his band and fans to "lift him up."
During a recent concert in Cincinnati, which was the band's first public performance in three months, a frail Love sat in a chair on stage for the entire show. Stamos, who has performed with The Beach Boys as a guest since the 1980s, described seeing his longtime friend and mentor facing such "human and fragile" circumstances as deeply affecting.
Love himself last provided a health update in June, explaining that the loss of his sister, Maureen, and his ongoing recovery from bronchitis followed by COVID-19 had taken an emotional and physical toll. Following this, the band canceled the remainder of their shows through September. Their September dates were subsequently canceled without explanation, though they performed a private show on October 3 where Love also performed from a chair.
The exact nature of Love's current health issues remains undisclosed. The cancellations and Stamos' statements have heightened concerns among fans about the legendary singer's well-being.
