The recent marriage of baronet Sir William Jaffray, 74, to Gowri Siva, 60, has become a point of contention, with a family member levelling serious accusations against the new Lady Jaffray. The ceremony, which took place in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with both individuals seated on Sir William's bed, is described by the relative as a ‘predatory marriage’ and a ‘calculated heist of a defenceless man’.
According to the accuser, Lady Jaffray isolated Sir William from his family by barring them from his hospital room, allegedly against his wishes. The family member further claims that Lady Jaffray arranged for an external registrar to conduct the ceremony after the hospital refused, and withheld news of the marriage for a week to prevent legal intervention.
Lady Jaffray, a lawyer-turned-art specialist, has refuted these claims. She stated that Sir William had a written, 'irrevocable wish to marry' her and that it was his decision not to inform the family immediately. She also asserted that it is impossible to 'smuggle in a registrar' and that Sir William's eldest son, Nicholas, is supportive of the marriage, believing her feelings for his father are genuine.
Sir William, who has been married twice previously and has four children, is known for his past legal battles against Lloyd's in the 1990s. He represented investors who suffered significant financial losses in the London insurance market.
Regarding Lady Jaffray's earlier suggestion of a honeymoon on the Orient Express, the family member dismissed it as a 'cruel distortion,' noting that Sir William had been incapacitated and unfit to travel for years.
