An autistic man who disappeared from his Bronx home more than a week ago was stabbed in an unprovoked attack on New York City's Upper East Side, authorities said.
Isaac Davis, 23, was walking near the intersection of Second Avenue and East 96th Street around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when an assailant attacked him from behind, according to police and sources.
Davis, who could not see his attacker, was discovered on the ground unconscious and bleeding. He was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he is expected to recover, police stated.
He had reportedly wandered away from his apartment on East 166th Street in the Forest Houses complex in Morrisania on July 20. His mother reported him missing later that day. Police had released his photograph as part of a public appeal for assistance in locating him.
It remains unclear where Davis was or how he traveled to the Upper East Side between the time of his disappearance and the stabbing. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
