Poppy Reynolds, a 22-year-old suicide prevention campaigner from Bundaberg, Queensland, has died, prompting an emotional funeral service. Her death occurred late last month, four years after her older brother, Harry Reynolds, lost his life in 2022.
Following her brother's death, Reynolds became a passionate advocate for suicide prevention support and engaged in fundraising for mental health charities while working as a civil plant operator. Her mother, Natalie Vizer, described her daughter at the funeral service as a "darling, golden-heart girl" who consistently prioritized others and aimed to make a positive impact on the world. Vizer noted that her daughter's "tough resilience just couldn't show up one more time."
Reynolds was characterized as an upbeat and outgoing young woman who, despite outward appearances, managed her own mental health struggles. Her older sister, Grace, stated that Poppy had been a source of strength in recent years and expressed sorrow for not being able to provide the same support to her. Her father, Bruce Reynolds, urged his three surviving children not to endure another family funeral. Her younger sister, Euleilah, recalled Reynolds's vibrant sense of humor and ability to brighten any room.
Mourners at the service wore yellow in tribute to the yellow poppy flowers that adorned the chapel. Reynolds had maintained a close relationship with her brother, Harry. For her 18th birthday, she requested donations to her fundraising campaign for Suicide Prevention Australia instead of gifts. In a past Instagram post about her brother, she wrote, "I just wanted you to know that I never stopped looking up to you (even when we fought non stop)."
A friend, Jordan Warren, shared a tribute online, calling Reynolds a "blessing" and her loss "one of my biggest heartaches," adding, "I know you're up there, most likely being the loudest, unapologetically of course."
