Folk-rock icon Art Garfunkel has stated that he is considering leaving the United States due to his dissatisfaction with the country's current direction under President Donald Trump.
Garfunkel, 84, shared his sentiments in an interview with The Guardian, published Friday, ahead of his "What A Wonderful World" tour. "I don’t like America’s position at all," he told the publication. "I’m not aboard, and I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly."
The eight-time Grammy winner, who supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential campaign, also voiced concerns about global issues, noting, "It’s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water’s rising, that so many people are starving."
His criticism extended to the Trump administration's actions, specifically mentioning the situation in Venezuela. "When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, are those the new rules?" Garfunkel questioned. "Just take over a country and run it? It’s shocking."
Despite his current feelings, Garfunkel expressed a degree of hope, acknowledging that "Trump won’t last forever" and stating, "so we’ve got to hope."
Other public figures have also publicly considered or made moves to leave the country following Trump's presidency, including comedian Rosie O'Donnell, who has reportedly moved to Ireland, and television personality Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi, who have settled in England.
