Arsenal is on the verge of completing a protracted £75 million transfer for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports. A full agreement between the clubs is nearing completion, with final terms considered a formality.
Guimaraes is awaiting permission to leave Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain, to finalize the move to Emirates Stadium. The Brazilian midfielder has expressed his desire to join Arsenal, having emerged as manager Mikel Arteta's primary target for the central midfield position.
Newcastle and Arsenal have been in discussions regarding the finer points of the transfer this week. Guimaraes had informed Newcastle earlier in the summer of his intention to move to Arsenal should a suitable offer be presented. Once this deal is finalized, Newcastle will have generated over £240 million from player sales this summer.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022. His former club, Lyon, is entitled to 20 percent of the profit from this transfer and is expected to receive between £7 million and £8 million. Arsenal is reportedly making arrangements for the midfielder's medical examination this week.
This transfer saga comes as Newcastle has seen other notable player sales, including Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona for £69.3 million and Sandro Tonali's transfer to Spurs for £100 million. The club is currently exploring potential replacements for Guimaraes.
