Glendale, Arizona police officers responding to a house fire on August 1 discovered a 2-year-old child strapped into a car seat inside a smoke-filled home. The child's mother, identified as 26-year-old Kallien Heathman, was found unresponsive on the floor, allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Bodycam footage released by the Glendale Police Department shows officers entering the residence near 67th Avenue and Cactus Road amid reports of a fire. They located the toddler, who was unable to escape the car seat. Officers removed the child from the home to safety.
Upon returning inside, officers found Heathman unconscious near a couch. Attempts to rouse her were met with resistance as officers removed her from the house. The source of the fire was determined to be pizza cooking in the microwave.
Authorities reported that Heathman's 7-year-old child alerted his father, who then called 911. Heathman was reportedly the guardian of both children at the time. Her blood alcohol content was found to be five times the legal limit. She faces felony child abuse charges for allegedly leaving the children unsupervised while severely intoxicated.
