An Arizona grandfather is scheduled for a double leg amputation after a fall on a 120-degree sidewalk in Bullhead City, Arizona, left him with severe burns and heat stroke. Grant Siler, 72, collapsed during a walk on August 3, remaining on the pavement for at least an hour before being discovered.

By the time help arrived, Siler had suffered second- and third-degree burns across multiple parts of his body due to the extreme heat. He was transported to a Las Vegas burn intensive care unit where doctors also diagnosed him with heat stroke and multiple organ shock. During surgery, medical staff determined that the tissue in Siler's right leg was too severely damaged to heal completely, necessitating an above-the-knee amputation. His family stated that this procedure is expected to facilitate faster healing and better pain management.

Siler has undergone two debridement procedures to remove damaged tissue and continues to experience constant pain. He is facing a lengthy recovery period, which will include the amputation surgery scheduled for August 31. His family is preparing for significant changes to his home environment, the need for medical equipment, and prosthetic limbs.

His daughter, Heather Crook, described the incident as particularly concerning given her father's typically high pain tolerance. "So for him to holler out in pain… it’s really hard to hear. That’s not the kind of person that he is," she told FOX 10.

Siler's wife, Vicki, has been making a 90-minute commute each way to be with him while continuing to work due to mounting financial pressures. The family anticipates substantial medical bills alongside the costs associated with Siler's recovery. A GoFundMe campaign has been established by his family to help cover expenses such as home renovations, medical supplies, and prosthetics.

Separately, Leslie Caoili, a 41-year-old San Diego resident, is also undergoing a life-altering recovery after losing all four limbs following complications from emergency heart surgery in May. Doctors discovered a Type A aortic dissection during a routine checkup, and subsequent emergency surgery led to loss of blood flow to her extremities. Both of her legs and her hands were amputated.
