Pop singer Ariana Grande has publicly denounced the Donald Trump campaign for using her song in a TikTok video that included an anti-trans message. The video, posted by Team Trump on Thursday, featured the president walking on stage with Grande's hit single "We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" playing in the background. Text overlaying the video included the lyric "Me and my truth we sit in silence" before stating, "Men can’t have babies and should never compete in women’s sports."
Grande responded directly in the comments section of the TikTok video, writing, "Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false." While the video initially remained online, Grande's music was subsequently removed, with the clip now displaying "This sound isn’t available."
This is not the first time the "Petal" singer has taken issue with the Trump administration using her music without authorization. In June, the White House posted an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) propaganda video that incorporated audio from Grande's song "Bye." At the time, Grande expressed her strong disapproval, stating, "Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense. Fuck ICE."
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson responded to Grande's earlier criticism by stating, "what’s actually barbaric, inhumane, and heinous are the criminal illegal aliens who have injured and murdered innocent American citizens."
Grande is among a number of musicians, including the Rolling Stones, Rihanna, Adele, Black Sabbath, and Sabrina Carpenter, who have previously objected to the Trump campaign's unauthorized use of their songs for political messaging on social media.
