The Apple TV+ series "Sugar" has concluded its second season, leaving viewers with significant plot developments and questions about the show's future. The eighth and final episode of Season 2, titled "Like Sugar," aired on August 7, resolving the season's primary case while introducing new betrayals and reunions.
There will be no new episodes of "Sugar" released on August 13 or August 14, as the season has officially wrapped. Season 2 comprises a total of eight episodes. Apple TV+ has not yet announced whether the series will be renewed for a third season. Historically, the network has taken several months to confirm renewals; Season 1 wrapped in May 2024, and the renewal for Season 2 was announced in October 2024.
Showrunner Sam Catlin and star Colin Farrell have indicated that there is more story to tell. Farrell commented on the evolving and potentially nefarious nature of Sugar's sister, Djen, suggesting a significant conflict ahead if the series continues. "There is something nefarious at play, and it terrifies him because he knows how powerful she is, and he knows how bright and brilliant she is. But there is something changed," Farrell told Decider. "There’s a kind of a darkness that’s fallen over her that he doesn’t quite understand."
Catlin added that Djen possesses traits like ambition and greed that could pose problems for Sugar in future seasons. The season finale saw Sugar accepting his life on Earth, finding contentment in his surroundings and reconnecting with a friend. However, a glowing box, symbolizing his connection to his people, reappeared at the end of the episode, hinting at future narrative directions.
If renewed, new episodes might be expected around 2027, following the pattern of Season 1 premiering in 2024 and Season 2 in 2026. "Sugar" is an Apple TV+ original series, available for streaming to subscribers of the platform. Apple TV+ offers a seven-day free trial for new users and a single ad-free plan at $12.99 per month. Subscribers to Amazon Prime Video can also access Apple TV+ for an additional fee, with options for bundled subscriptions available.
