Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the congresswoman representing New York's 14th congressional district, has opted not to comment on her personal life, including her relationship status, following recent public discussions about her fertility treatments. When approached by a reporter on Wednesday morning outside her Queens apartment, Ocasio-Cortez declined to answer questions about a reported split from her fiancé, Riley Roberts.
"I don't comment on my private life – thank you," she stated with a smile before concluding the interaction. This stance on discussing personal matters comes shortly after the congresswoman shared extensive details about her ongoing fertility treatment, specifically her egg-freezing process, with her social media followers.
In a series of Instagram posts, Ocasio-Cortez provided her 9.6 million followers with a look into her fertility journey. One video documented her home treatment setup, showing vials, syringes, and other medical implements. The video concluded with her demonstrating the injection process, lifting her shirt and preparing her stomach for the injection. "Don't be weird about this," she advised viewers just before administering the injection.
Ocasio-Cortez, 36, has framed the decision to undergo fertility treatment as a personal choice aimed at increasing her sense of control over her life. She has also addressed potential interpretations of her actions, such as speculation that the treatment is related to a breakup or a plan to defer motherhood to pursue future political ambitions, including a potential White House run in 2028.
"If people want to make assumptions about my decision, let them make those assumptions. I feel empowered to make this choice," she asserted. Ocasio-Cortez has been engaged to Roberts, who has a background in marketing and web development, since 2022.
