Anne Robinson Relocates to London Due to Declining Eyesight
The 81-year-old television presenter moved from the Cotswolds to be closer to her daughter, citing independence and isolation concerns.
Anne Robinson, 81, has moved from her longtime home in the Cotswolds to central London, a decision prompted by her deteriorating eyesight and a desire to maintain her independence. The television presenter, known for her role in "The Weakest Link," lived in a converted barn in the Cotswolds for 40 years but now resides in an apartment near her daughter, Emma.
Robinson stated that her vision has declined to a point where she can no longer drive safely, leading to feelings of isolation. "My eyes are not great to the point where I can't really safely drive anymore and that means I'm rather isolated," she said in an interview on Saga's "Experience is Everything" podcast. She emphasized the need to "hang on to what we can" as individuals age.
The move places her closer to her daughter, a television and radio producer, and her grandchildren. "So I am near her and I think she's quite relieved," Robinson added.
Robinson also spoke candidly about her past struggles with alcoholism, which led to her losing custody of her daughter Emma in 1973. She described the experience as the most shameful period of her life and expressed remorse over the situation. Robinson recounted that she developed a severe drinking problem in her 20s, which contributed to the court ruling that deemed her an unfit mother at the time. She has since overcome her alcoholism and has since rebuilt a strong relationship with her daughter.
In 2022, Robinson departed from her role as host of Channel 4's "Countdown." Reports at the time suggested on-set friction with co-hosts Rachel Riley and Susie Dent, as well as a pay dispute. Robinson has since addressed these rumors, denying a significant rift but acknowledging her preference for a quiet studio environment. She also confirmed that she left the show partly due to a pay disagreement, declining to join Channel 4's payroll despite being offered a raise.
