Ed Cassano, an 81-year-old wildlife enthusiast who appeared on Animal Planet's "Fatal Attractions," died in a hit-and-run incident on a rural Arizona highway on August 7. Cassano had pulled over to observe a snake when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Gila Valley Central outlet.

The driver, identified as 57-year-old Ricky Finch, allegedly fled the scene in a white Ford Fusion. Finch later turned himself in to authorities on August 14 and was arrested outside his home in Graham County, Arizona. He has been booked on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Cassano, a father of two, was known for his work with exotic and venomous snakes. He gained television exposure in 2010 for his unique lifestyle, reportedly living with 40 snakes. In a quote from the show, Cassano described the thrill and danger involved in working with venomous reptiles, stating, "Even after all these years, every time I go into a venomous snake cage, there’s always a little adrenaline boost." He also spoke about the challenge and satisfaction of building trust with such animals.

Friends and colleagues remembered Cassano for his expertise and dedication. Rhett Stanbury, who knew Cassano for 15 years, described him as a mentor and father figure. Stanbury recounted how Cassano trained him for his venomous license in Florida, taught him photography, and accompanied him on snake-hunting expeditions. Cassano was also noted for his compassionate treatment of animals, including keeping some venomous snakes for their entire lives, such as a ball python that lived for 60 years. His Airedale Terriers were also a beloved part of his life.
