Angelina Jolie and her daughter Zahara presented a united front at the screening of "Without Blood" on Monday, appearing together for the film's debut in New York's East Village. The outing follows the news that their son, Maddox, has legally dropped Brad Pitt's surname.
Jolie, 51, was accompanied by her 21-year-old daughter, Zahara, to celebrate the premiere of her latest directorial project. The actress wore a black suit with a gold bralette, while Zahara opted for an elegant halterneck dress. The film, set for release on September 18, is described as a "parable-like tale exploring themes of family, war, and revenge."
"Alessandro Baricco's Without Blood examines universal truths about trauma, memory and healing," Jolie stated. "The emotional intimacy and openness that our cast and crew brought to this film was extraordinary and exciting to be around. I hope that Salma and Demián's brave performances will inspire the type of conversation that Baricco sought in writing the novel."
The mother-daughter appearance comes just days after reports confirmed that Maddox, 25, has officially removed "Pitt" from his surname. A Los Angeles judge granted the name change on Monday, officially making his name Maddox Chivan Jolie, according to Page Six. The court order stated, "There are no objections, the petition for change of name is granted. The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner’s name is changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie."
Maddox reportedly attended the Stanley Mosk Courthouse hearing remotely, accompanied by his attorney, Peter Levine. Earlier this year, both Maddox and Zahara had published legal notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal declaring their intention to drop their father's last name. Zahara has a name change hearing scheduled for September 28.
Shiloh, 20, also previously took steps to drop Pitt's last name. Her attorney confirmed in July that the decision was independent and made following difficult events. Shiloh filed for the change on her birthday in May, with the change later announced via a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times.
Sources have indicated that Pitt's relationship with his older children remains strained, with one insider telling People that he has "virtually no contact" with his adult children. His engagement with the younger children is also reportedly more limited due to his filming schedule.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were married from 2014 until their split in 2016. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024. The former couple remains involved in a legal dispute concerning their jointly owned French winery, Château Miraval.
