Interim manager Andy Green is signaling that he intends to return to the New York Mets' front office rather than continue in his current dugout role. Both Green and the organization appear prepared for this outcome as the offseason approaches.

"I think Andy’s done a very good job in the dugout," said president of baseball operations David Stearns. "Again, I think we will get to the point where I’ll more fully describe what we’re seeking in our next manager. Today’s probably not the day to do that."

Players Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto acknowledged Green's effective performance as interim manager following the Mets' 10-6 victory over the Giants on Friday. They also voiced their respect for his potential decision to return to the front office.

"That’s a very personal decision," Lindor stated. "That’s between him and his family. We have no say in that. He has kept what he’s said from Day 1 and you’ve got to believe the guy. He’s a very respectable guy, and honest."

Soto added that uncertainty about the next year's coaching staff is challenging for players. "I know a lot of people want to be the manager, but when you get comfortable, it’s tough to see them get away," Soto said. "Everybody feels good with him. He stays out of the players’ way and lets everybody do their own thing."

Lindor noted Green's success in "making sure guys do what they need to do and is pushing to make us get better." He also recognized the personal aspect of Green's decision. "He’s got to make a decision with his family and those are the only people that matters," Lindor said. "We’re both dads and you have to respect his decision and want him to be with them. He was a manager once [in San Diego]. He knows what it takes. He knows what he’s doing and I fully respect his decision. I’ll be on board with whatever he decides."

Green himself expressed affection for the current team and the competitive dugout environment. "I loved the current team and I love the competition that comes from the dugout environment. That … part has never been in doubt or anything I’ve ever wavered on," Green said Friday.

Lindor anticipates Green's future will be a significant topic this offseason. "It’s gonna be an interesting topic this offseason," Lindor said. "We’ll see."
