Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami on Saturday to face rape and sex trafficking charges in the United Kingdom. They are currently being held in federal detention, and a U.S. district judge will determine in the coming weeks if they meet the conditions for extradition.
An attorney for the brothers, Joseph McBride, has called the charges "filth and slander" and expressed confidence that the extradition request will be denied.
British prosecutors stated that the new charges involve four additional alleged victims and stem from evidence provided by Bedfordshire Police. The accusations, which reportedly span incidents between 2010 and 2017, include rape, assault, trafficking, and offenses related to child abuse material and extreme pornography. These allegations are in addition to previous charges in the U.K. concerning alleged offenses between 2012 and 2015 against three other individuals, including rape, bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution.
The Tate brothers, dual U.S. and British citizens, have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. They moved to Romania in 2016, where they were arrested in 2022 on accusations of participating in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. Those Romanian charges did not proceed due to legal and procedural issues. They were permitted to leave Romania last year and subsequently traveled to Florida.
Andrew and Tristan Tate have gained notoriety for their social media presence, which promotes wealth, male dominance, and misogyny, making them highly polarizing internet figures.
