Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate appeared before a federal magistrate in Miami on Monday following their arrest on Saturday. They are being held in federal detention while a U.S. district judge considers whether they meet the conditions for extradition to the United Kingdom to face new charges.
Prosecutors in Britain announced new charges against the Tates, which they state relate to four additional alleged victims and stem from evidence received from Bedfordshire Police. The alleged incidents span from 2010 to 2017 and include charges of rape, assault, trafficking, and offenses related to indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
These new allegations are in addition to previous charges in the U.K. involving three other alleged victims between 2012 and 2015. Those charges include rape, bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain. The brothers have consistently denied all allegations.
An attorney for the Tates, Joseph McBride, has publicly denounced the new charges, calling them "filth and slander." He expressed confidence that the extradition request would be denied.
The international legal proceedings involving the Tates have also included Romania, where they were arrested in 2022 on suspicion of participating in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. Those charges did not move forward due to legal and procedural issues, and the brothers were permitted to leave Romania last year.
Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are dual U.S. and British citizens, moved to Romania in 2016. Their online presence, often promoting themes of wealth, male dominance, and misogyny, has made them prominent, albeit polarizing, internet personalities.
