Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reportedly ended her engagement to longtime fiancé Riley Roberts about two years ago, according to reports.

The New York congresswoman and Roberts called off their engagement around 18 months ago, Puck News chief Washington correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell told TMZ. The couple was last photographed together at the 2021 Met Gala, and Ocasio-Cortez announced their engagement the following year.

Sources familiar with the situation indicated that Ocasio-Cortez stopped wearing her engagement ring in the months leading up to the decision to not proceed with the marriage. The specific reasons for the split remain unclear.

This news emerges shortly after Ocasio-Cortez shared a video on social media detailing her process of preparing for egg freezing, which involved injecting fertility drugs. In the video posted to Instagram Stories, the congresswoman discussed the societal pressures women face regarding family planning and career longevity, particularly in politics.

"This is just not something that men deal with," Ocasio-Cortez stated in the video. "Men run for office, or frankly, they interview for jobs and people don't think in the back of their mind, 'OK this guy's running for office, how old is he? Oh, well is he gonna wanna start a family?'"

She characterized her decision to freeze her eggs as "a choice I am making to feel more in control of my life."

Ocasio-Cortez, who has served in Congress since she was 29, has been a prominent figure in national politics.
