Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has commented on the issues surrounding the renovation of the White House's Reflecting Pool, suggesting the problems were predictable given the administration's stance on science.

During a conversation with the MeidasTouch Network, Ocasio-Cortez stated that when scientific research is defunded and there is a lack of understanding of science, such outcomes can be expected. She remarked, "They said they had to repaint the pool and now they’ve turned the place into a swamp. They turned it into an actual swamp."

The New York Democrat's comment drew a parallel to President Donald Trump's repeated campaign promise to "drain the swamp" in Washington, D.C. The $14 million renovation project for the Reflecting Pool faced challenges that led to the need for repainting.
