Alexa Chung has confirmed her engagement to actor Tom Sturridge, revealing details about the antique Tudor diamond ring he gave her. The model and TV presenter, 42, shared that a friend warned the historic piece might be haunted.
Chung told More Or Less magazine that Sturridge, 40, selected the ring because of her known affection for vintage items. "My engagement ring is a Tudor... Tom knows how much I adore vintage and antiques, and he got me a beautiful Tudor ring. It's like a table-cut diamond," she said.
The ring's design reminded Chung of jewelry worn by figures at the court of Henry VIII, including Anne Boleyn. During preparations for a fashion show in Paris, her hairstylist reportedly reacted with alarm to the ring. "Oh my god, I think your ring is haunted," the stylist exclaimed, according to Chung. She recounted him taking the ring off her finger and performing a ritual involving wishes and blowing on it.
This is the first public confirmation of the couple's engagement, which first sparked speculation in June 2023 when Chung was seen wearing a ring at a birthday celebration. Further speculation arose in 2024 after she was photographed with a ring during Paris Fashion Week.
Chung previously expressed skepticism about marriage, telling Porter magazine in 2018 that she did not understand why marriage differed from non-marriage and did not require "a wedding day per se."
The couple made their relationship public in July 2022, photographed kissing at Wimbledon. Sturridge, known for his role in Netflix's The Sandman, was previously engaged to Sienna Miller, with whom he shares a 14-year-old daughter, Marlowe. They were together from 2011 to 2015. Miller has spoken positively about the evolving family dynamic, describing dinners with Sturridge, Chung, and her current partner Oli Green as "very loving and cozy and great."
Chung and Sturridge have attended high-profile events together, including the Met Gala in May. Prior to her relationship with Sturridge, Chung dated musician Alex Turner and actor Alexander Skarsgard.
