A 17-year-old Alabama boy has been identified as the suspect in a violent knife attack that resulted in the death of his mother and serious injuries to his father. Brandon Baker was arrested Sunday on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Authorities were called to the Baker family home in Baldwin County around 9 p.m. Sunday, where they discovered Samantha Baker, 37, and Lance Baker, 46, with multiple stab wounds. Samantha Baker was pronounced dead at the scene, while Lance Baker, a U.S. Army Reserve veteran, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Neighbors reported hearing Lance Baker pleading for his life as he sought help.

The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument over the discipline of Brandon Baker, according to local reports. The teen allegedly stabbed his parents both inside and outside their residence before barricading himself and contacting 911.

Brandon Baker, who is the couple's eldest son, is being held on a $1 million bond. The family's younger son was not present at the home during the attack. Social media posts from Samantha Baker depicted a family life that included her two sons, often sharing updates on school events and family activities. In one post from September, she affectionately wished Brandon a happy birthday, noting that he was 17 and an "amazing person" while also acknowledging he could make her "blood boil."

Samantha Baker worked as a realtor, and she and her husband had met while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve. Their joint social media accounts frequently featured family photos and humorous anecdotes about the challenges of raising teenagers, with one post from March 2025 stating, "Raising a teenage boy.... 0/10 DO. NOT. RECOMMEND!" with two crying emojis.
