An Alabama mother has been charged with murder after her 2-year-old daughter was found dead in Lanett, Alabama, on June 12. Police stated that Madilynn Hadaway was found bound, face-down on a bed for more than 12 hours, and died of asphyxiation.

Sierra Shay Hadaway, 22, was arrested on Thursday, the Chambers County Sheriff's Office announced. Officials believe the toddler died of asphyxiation, but have not released further details. A second suspect in the case, Christian Myles Sturkie, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 14. Sturkie's relationship to Madilynn Hadaway remains unclear.

Hadaway has pleaded not guilty to the charges. She is currently being held at the Chambers County Detention Facility without bond.

An obituary for Madilynn Grace Hadaway described her as a "precious angel" whose "bright smile, curious spirit, and joyful heart brought life to everyone who knew her." The obituary also noted Madilynn enjoyed playing with dolls and being outdoors.

According to social media posts, Hadaway, under the name Sierra Hill, posted a memorial to her daughter, Madilynn Grace, with the dates of her birth and death, accompanied by the phrase "But GOD."
