Speculation arose regarding the death of Monty Lopez, father of TikTok personality Addison Rae, after an obituary was posted on his official X account on Monday. The concerns intensified as Google and Wikipedia entries for Lopez briefly indicated he had died on August 3, 2026. These online profiles have since been updated.

Hours after the obituary's appearance, an Instagram Story featuring the Drake song "Shebang" was posted, which followers interpreted as a sign that Lopez is alive. Daily Mail has reported that Lopez has not yet responded to inquiries.

Lopez had previously concerned fans by documenting a hospital stay on social media without providing explicit details. On Monday, he posted to his X account, "3rd trip to the ER in 2 weeks! come on man!!!"

The obituary posted on Lopez's X account read: "Monty Lopez will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his love for family and friends, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Throughout his life, he cherished time with those he loved and worked to make a lasting impact through his relationships and experiences. He is survived by his children, family members, and loved ones, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the stories he created, and the love he gave. A celebration of his life will be announced by the family at an appropriate time."

This period of public concern follows a series of personal and legal difficulties for Lopez. He filed for divorce from his wife, Kaitlyn Lopez, in May. The divorce filing came shortly after police responded to a mental health call at the couple's home, which reportedly escalated into a criminal investigation. Lopez was arrested on April 28 on a felony charge of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Lopez's ex-wife, Sheri Easterling, and Lopez have a history of legal disputes. They were married in 2004, divorced in 2017, remarried in 2018, and separated again in 2022 amid allegations of an affair by Lopez. In February, Easterling sought sole custody of their youngest son, Lucas Lopez, 12, and requested child support, suggesting supervised visitation for Lopez.

Easterling has also made allegations of verbal and physical abuse against Lopez dating back to 2005, including claims of slurs, and an incident in 2008 where she alleged he slapped their daughter, Addison Rae, across the face. She also claimed Lopez assaulted her in later years.
