Actress Supriya Ganesh, 28, has been cast in the upcoming reboot of the 2004 film "13 Going on 30," with Netflix confirming her role on Wednesday. Ganesh will star alongside Emily Bader, Logan Lerman, Jessica Alba, Taylor Ortega, and Tim Meadows in the new iteration of the romantic comedy. Other announced cast members for the project include Myra Molloy, Nasim Pedrad, Taylor Zakhar Perez, and Owen Thiele. Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original movie, is attached as an executive producer.

Ganesh announced her new role on Instagram, linking to an article confirming her casting and stating she was "flirty and thriving!!" The casting news follows the announcement of Ganesh's exit from the HBO medical series "The Pitt," after its second season. Her character, Dr. Samira Mohan, was written off the show in what sources described to Variety as a "story-driven decision."

Sources familiar with "The Pitt" indicated that cast turnover is typical for the series, which is set at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, a teaching hospital. Noah Wyle, an executive producer and star of "The Pitt," commented on the nature of the show's casting at PaleyFest in April. He explained that emergency rooms inherently have a high rate of staff changes, and the series aims to keep storylines fresh by introducing new characters or promoting existing ones. "It's an inevitability that's going to happen every season with this show," Wyle said, noting the challenges of maintaining a consistent ensemble cast over time.

Wyle described Ganesh as "a huge part of our show since the beginning" and her character Dr. Mohan as "beloved." He expressed that he enjoyed working with Ganesh and wished her well in her future endeavors, stating, "we're going to miss her."

Ganesh herself spoke with the Los Angeles Times last month about her departure from "The Pitt." She stated that the show's executive producers, including Wyle, R. Scott Gemmill, and John Wells, made the "creative decision" to conclude her character's storyline after the second season. "They work with such intention on the show and make all the choices that they make for that reason," Ganesh said at the time. "So I think it's better to ask them for answers."

Reflecting on her time on the medical drama, Ganesh expressed gratitude for the positive fan response to her character. "I've been getting such sweet, lovely messages from people," she told an outlet in April, while attending the Gold Gala. "And I've honestly just been surprised at how much people love the character and saw so much of themselves in her, and that's what I'm going to miss."

Ganesh had previously mentioned having "a couple of things in the pipeline" following her exit from "The Pitt." She also shared that she treasured her experiences working with co-stars Sepideh Moafi and Isa Briones, among others on the series. "It's been so great just getting all the love from the fans," Ganesh added. "I feel sad for them, too, that they won't get to see this character."
