Hollywood actor Shane Ryan Gledhill, 46, was arrested Tuesday by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office on 15 felony sex abuse charges. The arrest follows a five-year investigation into allegations that Gledhill used bogus casting calls and independent filmmaking projects to lure and abuse teenage girls. Investigators believe Gledhill’s alleged criminal activities may have spanned 25 years and involved victims from across California and potentially the East Coast.
The investigation began in 2021 after a 17-year-old girl reported suspicious conduct by Gledhill when she was 15. As detectives continued their work, they identified two additional survivors. A search of Gledhill’s Lompoc home in 2022 yielded thousands of digital files, which a forensic investigation revealed to be connected to nine victims, all minors at the time of the alleged offenses.
Gledhill faces charges including child molestation, rape, forcible sexual assault, contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, possession of child sexual abuse material, and providing harmful matter to a minor. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
Gledhill has an extensive Hollywood resume, with credits in approximately 120 films and over 150 projects. His IMDb page lists collaborations with actors such as Shelley Duvall, Richard Dreyfuss, Ed Harris, and Tom Arnold. He cultivated an image of social consciousness, claiming to use filmmaking to address issues like child abuse and sexual assault.
However, investigators allege he exploited his professional connections to target young victims. Gledhill maintained various online presences under handles including @madsincinema and @talkhardcinema. He claimed in his online biography to live a “straight-edge lifestyle” and work with a wide network of stars. He was also known for making controversial films, some addressing sensitive topics.
Authorities are releasing Gledhill’s mugshot in hopes that it will encourage more potential survivors and witnesses to come forward. Sheriff’s detectives are continuing their investigation and believe Gledhill’s alleged criminal activities could extend back 25 years.
