Mike Tetlow, a presenter for ABC Late News, has announced his resignation from the national broadcaster after an eight-year tenure. Tetlow, 48, shared on social media that he has accepted a new position as Manager of Media at the Rottnest Island Authority.
Tetlow stated that the demands of working until midnight five nights a week had taken a toll. His new role is expected to provide a more flexible schedule, allowing him to spend more time with his wife, Rochelle, and their two sons, Josh and Sam. He acknowledged his wife's support during his time at ABC Late News.
During his career, Tetlow has accumulated over 25 years of experience in journalism. He began his career in 1998 as a reporter for GWN in Bunbury before moving to Channel Ten in Perth. He later worked for Channel Nine before relocating to London in 2004. In London, he served as a freelance producer and presenter for organizations including the BBC, ITN, and Reuters. While in the UK, he covered significant global events, including the 2005 London terror attacks, and contributed to programs like Channel Seven's Sunrise.
Tetlow returned to Australia in 2008, working briefly with the local edition of A Current Affair before rejoining Channel 10. Between 2014 and 2017, he took a break from television to work as a government media adviser. He joined ABC in Perth in early 2018 to present the newly launched Late News service.
Tetlow expressed that he will miss his ABC colleagues, whom he considers friends, as well as the connection with viewers and listeners. Fans have shared their well wishes on social media, with many acknowledging his decision to prioritize family time and a healthier work-life balance.
