During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," quarterback Aaron Rodgers criticized ESPN's coverage of a recent scandal involving NFL insider Dianna Russini and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
Rodgers, who has a history of critical remarks towards various public figures and media outlets, directly addressed ESPN during the broadcast, which is carried by the network. He questioned why the network had not spent more time discussing the incident, which involved Russini, a former ESPN reporter who now writes for The Athletic, and Vrabel.
The scandal, detailed by Page Six, involved photographs of Russini and Vrabel at a resort in Sedona, Arizona, in April. Both individuals were married to other people at the time. Following the publication of the images, Russini was placed on leave by ESPN before exiting the company. The Patriots have not announced any public disciplinary action against Vrabel.
Rodgers used Russini's past affiliation with ESPN as a point of contention. "You have an individual that used to work at ESPN, that covers our league at the highest level… it’s a major scandal and NOBODY can talk about it? Like what are we doing?" Rodgers stated during the show, as quoted by multiple outlets. He later reiterated his point, asking, "What is the network doing? Like you literally have an individual that maybe used to work at ESPN that covers our league at the highest level, and there’s a major scandal, and it’s just like nobody can f–king talk about it? What are we even doing here?"
McAfee, the host of the show, did not directly respond to Rodgers' comments about the Russini scandal. Rodgers also briefly engaged in a separate critique of Dr. Anthony Fauci during the same program.
This is not the first time Rodgers has been critical of Russini's reporting. In March 2023, he criticized her coverage of his trade from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. Rodgers previously had a weekly segment on "The Pat McAfee Show" for which he was reportedly paid $1 million, during which he often made critical remarks about various topics and individuals, including his views on vaccinations and a public back-and-forth with television host Jimmy Kimmel.
