A 7-year-old boy, identified as Ackamus Gill, has died after drowning in a swimming pool at the Summer Park Apartments in Fresno, California. Emergency crews were called to the apartment complex, located at Butler and Winery, on Thursday following reports of a drowning.
By the time officers and firefighters arrived, Gill had already been removed from the pool. They immediately began CPR and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The boy was reportedly at the pool with more than a dozen children and adults. Authorities confirmed that no lifeguards were on duty at the time of the incident. It remains unclear how long the child was submerged and unconscious before being discovered.
The pool at the Summer Park Apartments had recently reopened, according to neighbors, amid the region's high temperatures.
Ackamus Gill's father, James Gill, posted a message on social media mourning the loss of his son. Friends and loved ones have shared condolences and support for the family. One social media post included a picture of Ackamus celebrating a school promotion.
A person who stated they were present during the incident reported attempting to administer CPR until paramedics arrived. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning is ongoing.
