A five-year-old girl named Elvanya Martin was shot in the chest on Halloween night in Detroit, Michigan, just moments after she returned home from trick-or-treating. The incident occurred while she was playing in the back room of her home.
According to her older brother, Elijah Martin, Elvanya told her mother, "I was shot, ma. I think I was shot." Her mother immediately transported her to the Children's Hospital of Michigan, where she underwent surgery. Martin shared updates on his sister's condition via Instagram, stating that the bullet struck just under her collarbone, resulting in a broken collarbone and two broken ribs. Elvanya is expected to remain hospitalized until she regains full use of her left arm.
The shooting is under investigation by the Detroit Police Department, which has stated it is making progress, though no arrests have been made. A GoFundMe account has been established by Elvanya's sister, Eleze, to help cover physical and mental therapy costs for the young victim.
