Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, published a lengthy online post addressing the reasons behind the Republican party's performance in the recent midterm elections. In over 1,700 words, Cruz outlined factors contributing to the outcomes, acknowledging that voters' concerns about the cost of living, energy prices, and corruption played significant roles.

Cruz also noted the impact of international affairs, referencing the cost of the Iran war and trade policies. He stated that "Food is too high, gas is too high, diesel is too high, insurance is too high, life is too high." He further commented that tariffs had exacerbated these issues, contributing to a nationwide affordability crisis.

Despite acknowledging these factors, Cruz reaffirmed his commitment to opposing policies he believes would harm Texas, stating he would "fight with all of [his] strength to defend Texas" against what he described as "newly elected radicals" pushing unfavorable policies. He mentioned congratulating a newly elected official on his victory and expressed an intent to work together where possible.

Cruz’s analysis touched upon voter priorities as indicated by exit polling, with the cost of living identified as the top concern by a significant percentage of voters. He noted that some politicians had dismissed these concerns, focusing instead on positive macroeconomic indicators that did not reflect the everyday financial pressures faced by many Americans. He also acknowledged that President Donald Trump had previously dismissed the affordability crisis and had engaged in foreign entanglements, such as the war in Iran, breaking a campaign promise.
