Tucker Carlson has declared the "end of the Trump era" following the Republican Party's substantial losses in the recent midterm elections. The influential media personality, who previously campaigned with Donald Trump, characterized the results as a "disaster" and a direct consequence of Trump's leadership.
"Well, that was a disaster," Carlson stated on his podcast, comparing the outcome to the sinking of the Lusitania. He suggested that the defeats were not entirely unwelcome to some within the party, implying that the Republican Party "deserves" the outcome.
Carlson criticized several Trump-endorsed candidates, including Darline Graham, whose late brother Lindsey Graham's policies on the war in Iran, Carlson argued, "destroyed" the GOP. He also pointed to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's failed bid for a fourth term, noting that Abbott's support for data centers was a "super unpopular" position.
According to Carlson, the extent of the Republican Party's losses suggests a long-term decline. "If you game it out, there’s kind of no coming back for a generation," he asserted. His remarks indicate a significant shift in his stance, having previously been a staunch supporter of Trump and even teasing the possibility of starting a third party.
